Hello. People may like BOxcar willie, but I love him. He is my favorite christian singer. I do not have many of his tapes, but I love him and I am sorry he passed away. I never got to see him live in Branson, but does that matter? I don't think so.

Some years ago, there was an item on a BBC Lunchtime Radio Show. A lady had asked if she could fulfill a dream of being marooned, in a lift, (elevator) with Box Car Willie. This was achieved, to her great delight, and mine. How did this strange encounter come about? Also, has Boxcar Willie the song, "Hobo Bill's Last Ride" in his repertoire. This was recorded, in the 1940's by Tex Ritter, I think and would be ideal for Boxcar Wille all Best Wishes from Gerry O'neill UK

It must have been sometime in the 80's when I saw Boxcar in concert at a park outside of San Jose, CA. He had harmonicas with him, and gave a few out...I received one, along with the best gift of all; some time with Boxcar, while he actually taught us a couple of songs.

Box was my husband's, favorite singer for as long as he could remember. So was I. We are not rich but we saved our money to go to branson in 1996. we went to his 7/02/96 at 2pm. I bought my husband box's doll and he autographed it for him. after the show we went to his museum and gift shop and got to tapes and he was there and he autographed them also. He spent a good bit of time just talking to us as if he knew us for years. We enjoyed Branson very much, box was the highlight of the trip, it was for our anniversary. I am have some strange feelings about some of the people I meet and talk to for awhile. I felt that Boxcar Willie would be leaving us soon. When I found out he had cancer, it did not shock me but it sure made me sad. I only wish we had ordered the video of that performance and wish I could get one now to give to my husband. His health is getting bad and I would like to bring back those memories Box gave us. Boxcar Willie will remain in our hearts forever. I took a picture of him and my husband, and the doll. I made it into and 8x10 and it is framed and hangs in our home. God must like his singing also, so he took him to be in his chorse.

My dad has always been a big fan of Boxcar Willie. He met him in DFW airport many years ago. Daddy was walking through the airport and he looked beside him. Boxcar Willie was walking right beside him and daddy recognized him by his fishing lure hat and asked him if he played guitar and Willie said "sometimes" and daddy asked him if he sang and Willie said "sometimes". Daddy said "you Boxcar Willie, aint cha?" and Willie said "yep." My daddy was so thrilled to meet him that he didn't ask for an autograph. He just took off walking with a big grin on his face.

For years I have been coming to Branson , and in the past always saw the Box Car Willie Show. Its just not the same any more going to the Branson area. Box was like a member of the family and I sure do miss him. But now he's playing his unique style of music before the Throne and those streets of gold. We all miss you Box! Sincerely, Ron Towler

Ride on, Boxcar Willie, the first place in line On the Through Freight to Glory is yours for all time. When Jesus He travelled from Mountain to Sea His pack it was light and His soul it was free; He blessed all who loved Him and welcomed Him in, And many a wand'rer He claimed as His kin. Now when the freight whistles in Heaven's green hills Where the sun never birns and the wind never chills, On rails of pure silver and sleepers of gold Old Hoboes arrive at their home in His fold. Ride on Boxcar Willie, may your star ever shine Beyond the red board, at the end of the line.

You've lifted our spirits, time and again With your voice like the wind on the wide lonely plain, And your hard-driving music with it's message of cheer May your Switch Lights to Heaven be all "Green and Clear"! We Miss You, Willie--Thanks for the tunes!

Maybe 15 years ago I took an elderly neighbor to a Boxcar Willie concert in Houston, MN. My neighbor had been a hobo and related to Box. I had not heard much about him. I left his show that day a big fan! Alot of singers can sing their own songs well, but Box could sing ANY song by anyone better!! I prayed for him when he was ill and mourned the loss of a great entertainer!

I too was born and raised next to the Katy railroad track. I still long to hear once again the sound of those great iron beasts and the lonesome whistle in the night. Every time we go to Branson, which is often, we always make it a point to stay in the Box Car Wille Motel. My fondest moment of Willie was the time many years ago when he was performing at the Austin County Fair. Willie was sitting on a chair playing and singing his train songs. My young daughter, age 10 at the time, and I sat next to Willie for hours while he entertained. My daughter still remenbers sitting on Willie's lap during intermission. Moments in time to remember and relish. Willie was one of us, pure and down to home.I'm sure that the reason God called Willie home is that He loved train song too.

I was first introduced to Willie's music by my parents at a young age. After that I begged them to get me all of his albums. Willie has a voice that can't be duplicated. But I'm sure he's still singing and blowing that train whistle up in heaven. I guess we'll just have to wait to hear it again

My wife and I first saw boxcar willie at sunset park in Pa. He did 2 shows and we met and talked with him between shows as he signed autographs. We liked him so much we started going to his shows traveling across the country and also branson. Along the way we met some wonderful friends who are all boxcar fans. We made great friends through boxcar and he always found time to talk with us and once had lunch with us at a picnic table. We have many great memories and we truly miss him and his music. One of the true country artist of our time will always live on in our hearts.

I was upset to hear that boxcar willies museum was closed and all it's contents were sold at auction. It's sad to see that real country music is dying & being replaced by those that have no hopes of ever filling the shoes of the late great singers like Boxcar willie , Roy acuff , Bill Monroe , the list is endless. I would like to ask a favor from anyone that reads this. I am remodelling my office & I am interested in any type of Boxcar Willie memorabelia that I could use to redecorate my new office where I play all my Boxcar willie songs. I am very interested in anything that has to do with Boxcar willie. I would especially love to find out who got his hat & guitar at auction & if they would be interested in selling either of the 2 pieces. I will accept any & all donations or if you have anything for sale please click on my name & email me & let me know what you have. I AM NOT ASKING FOR ANYTHING FOR RESALE. It is purely for my own personal collection. If you can help me , please email me. Thank you all so much & God Bless!

I have been a big BCW fan since I first heard of him. Watched him on the Opry, have some of his tapes. I am going to get CD's now as they make the music sound so much better. I remember when he appeared on the Opry a couple of years back, after he had recovered enough to visit on the Opry and with his friends around the Country via TV. He stood there telling about his recovery and said something like, "I'm so glad the Lord allowed me to get back here to sing for you again" and he did. Those are as close to his words as I can remember. But I think you can see what he was feeling at the time. BoxCar, Monroe, Lester Flatt, and Johnnie Russell, can you imagine what a show that would be and who they would have as their guests. God Love'em. George Morton

I am wrriting in rememberance of one of the "Greastest" men on this earth. And I feel that I was so priviliged to have met and talked with him one on one. He was one that you could feel he was a family man who truely loved his family. You couldn't help but love him. He also cared about the people around him. I live in Vicksburg Mississippi, and I worked at the time I met him, at Ameristar Casino as a shuttle driver. As I shuttled him down to his first show on his last night at the boat we were talking about music. He asked if I had a demo and I told him I did, and that I had won 3 trips to Nashville by entering contest. When we reached the boat, he got to the stair well as he was getting off and stood dead still and just looked at me and said,"Girl.., those eye's of yours are going to get you a long... way". And he smiled. And it was only through kindness. Nothing more. Later that night. I was told he had sent his guys out looking for me to open his 2nd and last show of the evening. He even called the transportation shack asking for me. I found out about it 3 days later and sit and cried myself sick. My supervisor deliberately would not tell me about it. My supervisor called me a cry baby and said it couldn't be that important to me. But little did he know that was a dream becoming reality. A prayer being answered. And I believe that Mr. Martin was the Angel in charge of that dream coming true. But someone stood in the way. And I saw that one person who stood in the way and he has came way down the ladder. Not that I wanted it to happen. I just had to except it, and let God have his way about things. I still pray God would see fit, that one day I will have another chance as Mr. Martin was giving me. May God rest his soul and take care of his faily left behind. Mrs. Martin, you have the sweetest husband and your children have the sweetest Dad. Be proud of him. I say you "have", because I know he is still with you. Not in body, but in spirit. May God richly bless each of you with his blessings from above And THANKYOU for this lovely website so we might learn more about Mr. Martin. Sincerely Your's Sharon Henderson Vicksburg, MS. sharri@canufly.net

Shortly before Boxcar became ill, my band opened a show for him near where I live in Minnesota. We had a great time working with him and were impressed by his professionalism. He was very cordial and helpful. Shortly after I saw him on "Opry Backstage" being interviewed by Porter Waggoner. During the interview Boxcar, speaking about his career and life, said, "You gotta have some help along the way." The comment stuck with me for some reason and a little while later I finished writing a song built around that comment and Boxcar's life story. It's called the Ballad of Boxcar Willie. I sent it to his son who I had met during the show, but I haven't heard anything back from him. Maybe someday someone will want to record it. I hope so because I think fans of Boxcar would really appreciate it. It has a narrative in it along with the song that carries a spiritual message about the true meaning of the whistle and the legacy left by Boxcar. If you are interested contact me and I will mail out to you free of charge a home recording I made of the song.

I met BCW several years ago at a concert in MN. He took the time to acknowlage all of his fans between sets. I think the biggest fan of his was my 6 year old son. I think my son Mike had every tape BCW ever made. It was February 23 when we saw him, (my dad, son, cousin and myself). It was my sons birthday and BCW sang a song for him and invited him on stage. What a wonderful man. I still listen to him when the chance arises. I should plan a trip with my elderly father to Branson. (and my son) I know we would all enjoy it. Thanks Box Car Willie for given us the memories that always bring back fond memories. God Bless, -Dean and family

I have been a big fan of Boxcars for years and every radio show I do I play one or two of his songs. I never had the pleasure of meeting him or seeing him live but he has been a big influence on me as far as Country music is concerned. It was the hardest thing I have ever done on radio was to announce his passing to my listeners. My wife and I visited Branson last year and I deemed it a great honour to have visited his gravesite. What a marvellous tribute to him is the wonderful headstone fitted to his grave. You will always be my hero, Rest in peace mate Doug Weedon Sydney Australia

I got the first audio tape of BCW in the late 70's in South Africa, seen him there and later in Germany on TV - a great musician - the country music I like and know is definitely represented by him. I am glad that I have met him - even only by electronic means. Now I found this web site so I can order the CD's I did not have so far. Please keep it up - it is fantastic to hear his music.

I had the pleasure of playing lead guitar for Boxcar Willie several times in 1979-80 at a nightclub called Country Roads in Lithonia, Georgia. He was a blast to play with and a fine gentleman. I cherish those memories of the shows we did together. I never knew there were so many train songs. He was one of the all time favorite people that I ever played lead guitar for in my life. He personally tried to teach me how to do the train whistle, but I just couldn't get it. I was saddened to learn of his passing, but I know that he is driving that great locomotive in the sky. God bless Boxcar Willie.

Can any fans of Boxcar help me please?. I have an autographed LP of Boxcar with two signatures on it that I am not sure about. I would like to find out who they are and what connection they had with Boxcar. Were they band members perhaps? The names look like FLECK JENNINGS and VIN or VEN STRAEL but I am not sure if these are the correct spellings. If anyone out there can help I will be very grateful.

My aunt and I found a video from one of his shows. Neither of us knows how it got there but we watched it. I now show it to every single person that walks through my door. That man was a genius, when it came down to it. He was talented in many ways. The world is very blessed for having that man as a part of it.

I moved to Missouri from Michigan in 1990 and one of my 1st stops after settling in was the Boxcar Willie show in Branson Mo. I am very honored that I was able to meet him & I attended his shows at least 1 time yearly until his passing. He is sadly missed by me but remembered greatly as his music plays on constantly in my home and my collection of Boxcar memrobelia gets larger as the months go by. He was a childhood hero of mine as I admired his train whistle, anyway I finally learned after several years of trying how to do that train whistle and on May 27, 1992 I took my girlfriend to the show for her birthday & the 1st thing I did was when he was telling the little story about the fast train I screamed out (Yes Just me) HOW FAST WAS IT? and the whole audience laughed at / with me as my face was red as could be. That same night as Boxcar saluted the flag as he was exiting the stage I did the train whistle & Ole Box took a double take as he walked off the stage as to say "who did that?" . Unfortunately the train whistle part was not on my video tape I have of the show, but for my friend, girlfriend , & myself The memory will live forever. Boxcar Wille & his group were great people and the one thing I appreciate him the most for is that he kept it "PURE COUNTRY"! GOD bless the family of Boxcar as I can only imagine how much he is missed by ya'll. Just alwys remember "There's no tears in Heaven"!

I am very sorry of the loss of one of my idols and legend in my heart. I'll never forget the first time I heard Boxcar sing. I was riding in the car with my parents and grandpa. My Grandpa had just been told he had cancer everywhere and had a few weeks left. We had a 9 hour drive to take Grandpa back to his hometown. We listened to Boxcar all the way. I love listening to him it was always a special thing between my grandpa and me. Boxcar brings that special connection for me as they looked alike. I hardly ever saw my Grandpa without his overalls! Someday I will get to Branson, just to say I was there! Thank you for keeping the legend alive! God Bless from Nebraska!

Boxcar was a great entertainer. For many years he and his band graced the stage of the temple theater for the jimmie rogers festival. And helped to keep that genre of country music going with the likes of earnist tubb and his son justin. Also tanya tucker , moe bandy and willie nelson just to name a few. The man loved his fans ! He was proud to always include a gospel song in his show. And good clean humor to boot. He was the embodiement of a good family act! I wish more would take his lead ! I thought of him the same way when he was living. He is still alive in me today. But i truly miss him. He still puts a smile on my face today.

As a runaway teen, I was prone to catching out all along the southeast and abroad. I had a duffle bag, an old walk-man, and three tapes. Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and Boxcar Willie. Having that music around me while riding the rails, playing my music, and seeing the country left a lasting impression on me, and a sense of style I carry with me to this day. My hobo days may be less frequent now, but the spirit lives on with every song I sing. May God shine his light on Willie's essence forever! -JB

We loved Boxcar and miss him dearly. We presented him with a handmade doll in 1999 on stage. The greatest moment in our lives was when Boxcar invited us on stage to present the doll to him. I was lucky enough to see Box Car Willie perform at his theater in Branson, in 1995 and again in 1996. He was very gracious to me and my son, Mike. He posed with Mike for a picture in hos gift shop. Then he signed autographs during intermission and remembered Mike from the gift shop. Mike and I will always remember our meetings with Box Car. We know he took that last train to heaven on rails of solid gold. Love Paul & Mike

I can't explain the pain we felt when Box left this earth. We really loved him. We visited the Show in Branson many times. Our little grandson, loved Boxcar and we brought him every time we came to see Box. Once, he dressed in Overalls and one of Boxes railroad caps. After the show thatnight he could not wait to get over to the gift shop because, Mr. Box, would be there. Box was there and let Dalton ride in his train , and Dalton pretty much monopolized Boxcars time that night. There was a painting in the back, that looks like Dalton, The child in the painting is watching a train. Dalton said that he was that boy.He asked Box about things in the showcases, and Box would tell him. He showed Boxcar how he could do the train sound. Tom Shockley told Box that boy will be up here working on your stage. Box said." Bless your heart!" Dalton would have gone home with Box that night and stayed. I wish he could have known Box longer. Miss Box, Lolene, I know you remember Dalton sending Boxcar cards. You even sent Dalton a funeral card and the obituary. It was the most difficult thing I ever had to do was to tell Dalton that Boxcar was dying. His first words were "We have to pray for him, Grani Berni!" We did. Then, I had to tell him Box was gone and in Heaven. He cried like his heart was broken, but we all did.I know BoxCar road (Life's Railway to Heaven) and thru the gate. I know Heaven's bells and whistles were welcoming him home. Would like to know where everyone is now. Would like to hear from Miss Box or Larry. I heard there was a Funeral cortage to the depot from Boxcars music hall. If there were newspaer pictures I would like to know how to get them. There will never be another like Boxcar,or the group that worked with him. We have not been back to Branson but once since he passed away. But when we do come back we will put roses on Boxcars place of rest. God bless you all. George, Berni Ensminger, and Dalton Smith

i really miss boxcar. box and i was friends and i treasure that friendship till the day i die. i met him for the first time at a fire co carnival, to this day that carnival has never seen the crowed as it did the day boxcar willie played there, and we had stars from the opry that week that didnt pack the crowed. boxcar was one of the nicest people you could every meet, there wasnt a time when i was at a show he was palying at that he d ever turn a fan away, and the kids just love him, when box played the york fair here in york, pa i was talking with box back stage and asked him to teach me how to do the trian whistle i practiced it for a while and i final got it down. i saw him in lancaster a few months later i said box i can do it, box said let me hear it boy, box was proud he said that is a very hard thing to do and it makes him feel good that someone can make the sound. box you will always been my friend and you are greatly missed by tis lil hobo, till we meet again.

I only saw Boxcar twice in concert in England and I think he was fantastic.I have some of his music and it has helped me through a lot of hard times over the years. Because of him I have come to love country music, something that I would never have considered listening to before. It's not really the same now though. A true Legend and sadly I never got to see him,as his illness came prior to his concert in Sunderland, though his music will live for ever.My late father was a rail fanatic and Willie's music brings back memories which are imossible to put in print. I was given a cassette of Willie's and played it for years but lost it when I was in a car crash. This site is a God send and a worthy tribute to a singer who repesents all that is great about America, and a fitting memorial to a gentleman, whose music touches the soul and whose absence makes the world a poorer place. I first heard of Boxcar in 1979 in London, England when he first was introduced in the Wembly Country Festival. I was a drummer in an American band from the Dunoon Submarine Base in Holy Loch, Scotland. The name of the band was "Wildwood USA". We were there to represent Scotland and England at the International Talent Competition. Because we were in the competition, we were allowed backstage and I was priveledged to meet Moe Bandy, Joe Stampley, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Bobby Bare, and the list goes on. I also got to meet the master of the train whistle, BOXCAR WILLIE. Our band got to talking with him and told him about the base in Holy Loch and asked if he might have time to come and entertain the troops. He said he would look at his schedule. Well, Boxcar found time to do that and came to the base and played in the Enlisted mans club. Our band hosted his performance. I'll never forget it because after we played on Sunday afternoon which was just set aside for Country Music, Wildwood went downtown Dunoon and either played at the Harmony Hotel (which doesn't exist anymore) or we would play at McColls Hotel. We played at McColls that night and Boxcar showed up! He asked to play with the band and of course we said YES!! We played a bunch of favorite songs and then Boxcar turned to me and said "Play a train beat" so I started and we went into a couple of his songs and then said over the mike, "ok, let's get this thing rollin'" so we speeded it up and he was very pleased. We had some very memorable moments. Well, that wasn't the only encounter I had. I was living in Ca in 1992 when Boxcar played Reno, NV. So, I thought I would call the hotel where he was staying to see if I could talk to him, you might think this is not true but it is, I called and talked to the receptionist and explained how I knew Boxcar and she patched me through right to his room. We talked for a while and he asked me if I was going to his show, but I couldn't cause I was working that weekend. We said our goodbyes and that was the last time I had contact with Boxcar. I sure hope you believe my story, if not please e-mail me. I am still in contact with all the Wildwood band members except Madfrog our bass player (e-mail me Madfrog), and they will be glad to tell you their experiences too! Thank you Boxcar for your Music and friendship. You are greatly missed. GOD BLESS you and your family.

I was shopping today and I was looking for a CD for my wife, then when leaving the store, I came across a double CD called "Boxcar Willie King of the Hoboes" and of course had to buy it. I've listen to his music for a lot of years and love his strong voice. As with many others I'm sure, when we go from one system to another, we don't always replace our selections (LP's)with the new ones (CD's). I had LP's which I don't use anymore but now I can listen to Boxcar Willie again. Last time I have seen him on television, might have been one of his last show, he was sick and you could tell he was suffering but he wanted to give his fans one last song. Lecil I hope you took your guitar with you in heaven, you're sure to get an audience and the chance to do many encores. We love you Boxcar Willie, you'll always be in our hearts. Jack

i saw boxcar willie on several occasions when he toured the uk,and he was a genuine great guy who found the time to speak to us,and sign autographs for all the fans who attened his fantastic shows i for one was very upset when i read of his death because country music had lost a real gentleman, its only recently that i found he had a website hence the delay in signing the guest book, but for me his music will live with me forever.

I recently saw BCW singing a gospel on TV at Branson, Mo. I am not sure of the name of the song but part of it is "When the wind blows yesterday to me". Does anyone know the name of this song and how I can get it. Thank You. A loyal fan.

When I was about 7 my father brought me into this store and said he needed to by something. He purchased a cassette of Boxcar Willie's... my first tape :) It is still my favorite, and since then I have lots more. I missed the opportunity when in 1994, I think, in August or November, he performed at the Forum in Presque Isle. I Iremember seeing Willie perform on the stage during the movie Gordy... I was SO happy. It is sad that he lost to cancer... it was a tough battle to fight, and I am glad that he stuck it out for as long as he could. I have a website of my own now and I am putting up a section of it for Boxcar, so if anyone would like to donate a few pictures or info, I will give you full credit. I would also like to link to this site, if it is alright with the webmaster. http://salinger_saved_us.tripod.com/ is the site. If you want to contact me, go to the section of the Complaint Department at the very bottom and e-mail me. Thank you; this is a beautiful thing you all have going :) - Boxcar's Fan, Kelly J.B

In Nov 1983, I was invited to do the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree and Boxcar Willie happened to be hosting the Jamboree as Ernest and Justin were on personal appearances in Ohio. I had a new record out entitled "Whatever's best For You" and it was playing in the Record Shop when Box entered from the Opry and he said "I love that song and want to record it". I told him it was mine and I'd be proud for him to record it. He gave me some good advice that night about the music industry. I too am retired USAF so we had some common interests and talked a bit of old times in service. I will always hold Boxcar Willie in high esteem and respect. I serve Jesus Christ in nursing homes and church with my music now as Jim Tippie, the Gospel Cowboy. I pray that God has given Boxcar Willie top-billing in Heaven. I'll see you soon, Box! Thanks for keeping the life and memory of Boxcar Willie alive. God bless you! GospelDJ7@aol.com - Little River, SC

Boxcar Willie played at Ponderosa Park up here many years ago. I was on the Sheriff's Dept and Ponderosa was a side job of mine. Of all the stars that played there, Boxcar was the only one who could make the downspouts on the rain gutters vibrate with his voice. We ate dinner with him and whatever stars played there in the summer, and it was a pleasure meeting him. He was a wonderful person.

I met Marty in Lincoln Ne., and immediately fell in love with him. Then I moved away, and lost track of him, till his firts album hit the TV. I was washing dishes, and heard his voice. I yelled at my mom, and said who is that? She said it was some guy called Boxcar Willie. I said are you sure? He sounds just like Marty Martin. Then I found his album in the store sometime later, and bought it, took it home, and told her, I WAS RIGHT! He had such an amazing, and magnetizing voice. I got to go to Branson and see him, in July, just before his passing the next April, and had my picture taken with him. Something I will treasure forever. I mis you Marty Marty Brown, Jacksonville, NC

I had the honor of sharing the same stage as Box car, in Webster MA. I was his opener band. I will always remember the true compassion in the words he spoke to me, that I would be where he is someday, that i was unique. His words changed my life and my music. And his memorie lingers of one the greatest men I have ever known and had the privledge to perform with that day. I have an awesome picture of the two of us on that day. Before I left I went to say good bye, and he said remember what i told ya know, we'll see ya round. What a wonderful man he was. And missed so very much. A forever fan boxcar! Eunicecb38@aol.com
